Canadian Association of Psychoanalytic Child Therapists

Canadian Association of Psychoanalytic Child Therapists

Application for General Membership

Thank you for your interest about membership in the CAPCT.

Most of the members of the CAPCT are graduates of the Canadian Institute for Child & Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (formerly called the Toronto Child Psychoanalytic Program (TCPP), but we do have several members who have been trained through other programs (e.g. the Tavistock Clinic in London, UK). We are very happy to welcome new members whose qualifications meet the CAPCT’s criteria.

The membership process for outside applicants is as follows:

  • Please send a copy of your CV stating your educational and professional qualifications to the CAPCT administrative office at 36 Foxborough Place, Thorndale, ON, N0M 2P0. You may choose to email these instead to info@capct.ca.
  • Provide the names of three professionals with whom you have recently worked. These people will be contacted by phone by a member of the CAPCT Executive Council to discuss your qualifications and work in a phone interview.
  • Your application will be reviewed by the Executive Council of the CAPCT at the earliest opportunity.
  • You will then have two interviews and the application along with the results of the interviews will go back to the next meeting of the Executive Council.

If you are invited to join the CAPCT, you are required to provide proof of malpractice insurance once you have begun practicing. Annual membership fees are $270 and are subject to review by the BoD each year. Members are also required to participate in the CAPCT group PEPweb subscription (unless you have an existing PEPweb membership). Members are strongly encouraged to upgrade and refresh their skills and Toronto offers a number of workshops and conferences of interest to child and adolescent psychotherapists. The CAPCT also offers ongoing Continuing Education events.

I am sure that you have a great many more questions and I would be happy to put you in touch with one of our Council members to discuss your interest in the CAPCT in more detail. If you would like more information, please call 416-690-5464.

We look forward to hearing from you shortly and thank you once again for your interest in the CAPCT.
